I recommend this for anyone that wants the best of both worlds but easy on the pocketbook!
This "off the beaten path house" will pleasantly surprise you with the feeling of seclusion, yet it is close to all the beach action you can handle. The house is filled with little details and character, with all the ammenities of home.
I'm not big on crowds, so it was wonderful to be close to everything gulf shores has to offer, but still be in this secluded spot. Not only was it great to be away from the crowds, but the decks and the river proved to be as least as enjoyable as the beach. I highly recommend this place.
You will not find a better location for a vacation that takes you away from the crowds. You get the privacy and quiet of a rural atmosphere. A place that makes you feel right at home. This is a turn key operation with everything you need for a vacation and then some already provided. This is a large house with all the amenities, large decks on front and back, and river in back yard. You can spend hours floating the river and canals while admiring the scenery. You can relax on the deck and enjoy the peace and quite. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to visit the beach and wants to get away from crowds and noise.
I have never taken the time to log on and personally write a review, but felt it was extremely necessary in this instance. I wish it was to tell everyone what a wonderful experience this was, but that is not the case. During a family reunion we organized a kayaking experience in hopes to make wonderful family memories. Two separate family members spoke to Betty on the phone as there were some questions regarding kayaking with children and inexperienced kayakers. We were given a price of $35 for a single kayak and $40 for a double. Once we got there they pulled the old bait and switch and told us it would be $75 for a double. This meant $185 for a family of five. As we were trying to determine who was going to stay and kayak and who was going to leave, we were interrupted several times by River Rick. We were attempting to reorganize 20 people and make sure the children and inexperienced kayakers were going to be safe. Our group was comprised of educated, business professionals and children and ages ranged from 3-58. It takes a while to organize. In the meantime River Rick kept telling us that the $40 was a misunderstanding. We attempted to explain that we were just trying to ensure the safety of our entire group. He left and returned to tell us he didn't like our attitudes and cursing was not allowed on his property. No one in our group said any curse words or disrespected River Rick. He said he was now not going to rent to us for fear that we may damage his property. As we were returning to our cars in disbelief and shock he told us that we could go to "Cracker-F$&@ing Barrel" for all he cared. We were extremely offended that he would speak to any of us this way especially with children present. I simply post this so that others can avoid the extremely rude and odds treatment that my family had to endure. Thank goodness there are so many other great experiences to be had in Gulf Shores. Just avoid this place.
Breakfast on the patio was relaxing and the kayaking on the river behind the house was entertaining.... a great way to enjoy nature!
Relaxing beautiful scenery Rick was great we were fist timers and with his instructions we had no problems.
We were close to the beach when we wanted to go there and right up the street was outlet shopping or groceries, when needed.
